It was a very solid display by Souquet as he made very few mistakes and capitalised on every opportunity that he was presented with. Taiwanese player Wu Chia-Ching looked set for victory when he led 10-8, but Pagulayan was able to win an important frame to make it 10-9, then Wu came up dry with his break and from there was never really given another chance with Pagulayan winning 11-10. Shane Van Boening of the USA looked down and out when he trailed 0-5, and then 2-8, before staging a great comeback to snatch victory 11-10 over Filipino Gandy Valle. Another impressive display was from another Filipino, Francisco Bustamante breezing through his match 11-2 against fellow countryman Antonio Gabica. Dual world champion, Filipino Ronnie Alcano was a surprise loser when beaten by fellow countryman Warren Kiamco. Kiamco's performance was very solid and is often underestimated, but to those close to game know just how competent a player Kiamco is. Thomas Engert of Germany was impressive with his victory over Filipino Marlon Manalo 11/8. Manalo had been in top form coming into this event, but wan't given many chances fromm his German opponent. Former world champion Mika Immonen of Finland also bit the dust, losing to yet another Filipino, Jeffrey de Luna. de Luna is in oustanding form and is quite a popular pick to win the tournament.
